GOODBYE DALI Part 8: Have You Ever Been to Spain? (#91A):  While Joe Zappala was still the Ambassador to Spain, the St. Petersburg Chamber of Commerce organized a visit to Spain.  First to Madrid, then some of the group went on to Barcelona, then finally, in honor of the Dalí (Dali) Museum, to Figueres.

The group included St. Petersburg Mayor Dick Ulrich, Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Paul Getting, and his wife Jean, Dick Johnson, Jim Albright, and Bill and Hazel Hough.

Bill Hough was on the Board to Trustees of The Salvador Dali Institute and thought it would be nice for Eleanor and Ren to join the group.  Ren and Eleanor weren’t able to go, so Bill suggested I go.  Ren didn’t like the idea of me spending so much time with a Trustee, but Eleanor got the approval.

We started Monday evening, October 1st, with a Reception hosted by The Ambassador of the United States of America and Mrs. Zappala.

The next few days we took in the sights, including the Royal Palace of Madrid, which Ambassador Zappala told us was the largest in Western Europe, and one of the largest in the world.  It has over 1,453,000 square feet and 3,418 rooms. Below is a group photo and a photo of Dick Ulrich in front of the Royal Palace.

I’ve lost a lot of my notes, so a little help please.  Who is that with Dick?  Also, who is that to the left of Paul Getting?  Can anyone help with the wives names?  I can only remember Hazel and Jean.  Getting old dulls the memory, among other things!
