HUGH F. CULVERHOUSE Jr. (#68 continued): Last year, fellow alum Hugh Culverhouse, Jr. donated $1.1 million to the University of Florida College of Law.  This donation will create a scholarship program for graduates of historically black colleges and universities.  Hugh’s donation follows an initial $100,000 gift from UF alum and lawyer Yolanda Cash Jackson. Hugh hopes his $1.1 million contribution will be a catalyst for fellow alums to follow suit. The law school has begun a campaign to match Hugh’s gift.

Hugh stated he was inspired by the late Congressman John Lewis, who was a civil rights icon. The scholarship will be awarded to at least five graduates from historically black colleges and universities each year.  They will be recognized as John Lewis Scholars.

Hugh said, and I agree, “Congressman Lewis used every day of his life to help this nation live up to the ideals of equality and justice for all. He knew that we could not be complacent, that racial justice demands continual dialogue and struggle. This scholarship fund will provide graduates of historically black colleges and universities with the tools necessary to unlock the full potential of our great constitution.”

I am so proud of you Hugh!  I have been trying to show the racial injustice that exists in the United States.  Here is a trailer I made for my Musical Documentary “You Will Go Free”, which is also the opening segment for my documentary “RACISM IN AMERICA: Why Black Lives Matter”.
