GALERÍA ATOTONILCO (#36): For the eight year, Galería Atotonilco is hosting an exhibition for internationally acclaimed ceramic artist, Gustavo Pérez. According to owners, Mayer Shacter and Susan Page, Pérez stands alone as the Mexican ceramic artist who is internationally celebrated and admired. His work has been displayed in fine galleries around the world and this year’s show is the largest collection of Pérez’s work that has ever been exhibited.

We met Gustavo two years ago when we purchased one of his rare porcelain pieces. Mayer and Susan have one similar to ours in their vast personal collection. Last year we were invited to a dinner at their home to honor Gustavo. It was an amazing event. The food was exquisite, of course, but what stood out was the display of their personal collection.

Only the covered patio separating their home from the Galería gives you any indication that you have left the gallery and are entering a personal space. Their personal collection is stunning and the opportunity to enjoy a fine meal in such surroundings and to browse with a glass of wine is something that I have not experienced since the Annual Dinners of the Order of Salvador hosted in the main gallery of the original Salvador Dali Museum in St. Petersburg, Florida.

Galería Atotonilco is the premier folk art gallery in Mexico. You can see a sample at the Fabric Aurora gallery. But for the full experience visit the 6,000 sq. ft. exhibition space a 10 minute drive north of town. Call for an appointment, one party at a time with all safety protocols in place.
