GOODBYE DALI Part 8: Have You Ever Been to Spain/Cadaqués? (#91F):
After leaving Port Llegat, we drove to Cadaqués, where the Dalí (Dali) family had a summer home. Dali’s sister, Anna Maria Dali lived in the family home until her death in 1989.
Many of Dali’s early paintings feature scenes around the summer home. “Cadaqués” (1923) offers an expansive view of the town from the rock terraces above the Dali family home. Dali used his sister as the model for the seven young women in the foreground. Anna Maria was Dali’s primary model until he met Gala in 1929.
In 1969 Eleanor and A. Reynolds Morse wrote that they searched the mountainside above Cadaquéz and found the spot whereDali may have painted “View of Cadaqués with Shadow of Mt. Pani.
Pascual and I didn’t have to work that hard to find the spot where Dali painted the three arches over the roadway Riba d’en Pitxot for his paintings “Portdogué, Cadaquez (1918-1919) and “View of Portdogué”. Portdougé or Port Alguer is a small bay ending in a beach with the Riba d’en Pitxot running along the east side.
