WE CORRESPOND! (#21): Anticipation.

9/29/02

Dear Cathy: Wow! You sound like the woman of my dreams!

I wish you had a profile and photo online. I hope it doesn’t sound shallow, but one of the most important things to me is feeling a spark when I see that special someone. Sometimes I feel like I’m looking for a needle in a haystack. If the spark is there, distance is not really a problem.

I’ll wait for your photos and press kit with my fingers crossed. In the meantime lets talk on the phone. An artist! I bought a painting Friday night. I’ve got a small collection, about 24 pieces.

Your travels sound incredible! I got back from Thursday from a trip to France and southern Africa. I went on safari in Kruger National Park in South African also visited Zimbabwe, Zambia, Mozambique, and Swaziland. It was great. I leave a week from Wednesday for Peru, and probably Chile and Argentina. I’ll be working on the rest of the trip this week. Things are slow at Continental now, and I got September and October off!

I am looking forward to talking with you! Scott

Good Morning Scott…Wishing to see a photo or two does not sound shallow. Your warm smile and happy eyes captured my attention immediately. I will need your snail mail address to send the “press kit.”

“I don’t think you will be disappointed,” she said modestly. Most people think I am a lot younger than 48, I actually got carded in Publix last week. Of course it was an 80 something checker without her glass…but still.

My friends say I am a catch. I too feel like I am searching for a needle in a haystack. However, when I read your profile I thought I had written it. You sound like an honestly nice person wit a delightful sense of humor. What a surprise…a good one.

Your travels sound exciting. I hope you take lots of photos. I have not been to Africa yet. My parents said it’s grand. They were medical missionaries in Kathmandu for 15 years and travel a lot. I have enjoyed many adventures and would love to travel more. I speak Spanish, and little bits of German, Thai, Nepalese.

My trek to the Everest base camp was stunning…did it with my Dad. Haven’t traveled muck lately. Busy becoming a famous artist. Actually sell quite well at the gallery and also a few outdoor shows. My gallery in on Sanibel, so it gets good exposure. Sept. and Oct. off…lucky you! I’ve got to get to work. I will try calling you tonight around 6 pm. Cathy

Dear Cathy: I enjoyed your email and look forward to talking to you tonight. I hope you’re real. This is almost like my friends got together and are playing a joke!

Love at AOL is a little bit like my travel. Sometimes I feel overwhelmed or apprehensive about a trip because I plan everything myself and usually don’t know where I’m going until the last minute. In January, a girl at work who is from Ecuador was trying to boost my confidence about flying alone the next day. She said “Don’t worry. Just go and everything will work out!” She was right. The helpfulness and kindness of stranger is amazing!

I think it’s the same with love. I’ve met a lot of people and made a lot of mistakes over the years (16) since my divorce. But I’ve learned from my mistakes and feel like I am in the best place I’ve ever been in my life. Now I’m searching for someone to share life with and it seem incredibly to find that one special person, And, I don’t want to settle for less.

So, I’m patient and keep trying and travel whenever I can. I came back from Bali in May feeling lonely because it was so quiet and remote and beautiful that I didn’t want to be there alone. I came back from Africa in total awe of what I had seen and done and feeling confident that I was doing the right thing and that things would work out.

Then, 3 days after I’m home and a few hours after coffee with a delightful and interesting lady that I knew immediately I had no interest in dating, I got your email. Isn’t life interesting. Scott
